Life After Oil Member Features in Positive News

Samantha Cooper

Samantha Cooper, a key member of the Life After Oil community, has been featured in Positive News for her work helping businesses and individuals move away from fossil fuels.

After 20 years working in the oil industry, Samantha knows better than most what it means to build a career around fossil fuels.

Following these two decades in the oil industry, Samantha is now Director of Business Declares, an organisation working to inspire businesses to respond to the “polycrisis” of climate, ecological and social emergencies.

Speaking about the response to the article, Samantha said:

“It has been fantastic to get such a response from the article! So many people have reached out to say how much it resonated with them, the discomfort they feel in their current work and the inspiration they get from those who are able to step away.”

She believes that sharing these stories is an important part of making career transitions away from fossil fuels feel possible.

“The more we can normalise those who say ‘enough, this work doesn’t align with my values and I’m unable to effect any meaningful change in this position’, the better.”

Samantha’s story is a powerful example of what Life After Oil is about – creating a space where people with experience in the oil and gas industry can be honest about where they have come from, connect with others navigating similar questions and explore what life and work can look like beyond fossil fuels.
